Claude makes an unprompted scientific find in the lab
Anthropic said its Claude model, while working on a research task, autonomously identified a previously uncharacterized bacteriophage enzyme system it is calling "array-associated reverse transcriptases" (ART), which structurally resembles CRISPR arrays. The company is framing it as an early example of AI contributing original findings to biology research rather than just accelerating existing workflows, a claim likely to draw scrutiny from independent scientists in the coming days.
Amazon lets AI agents run seller accounts
Amazon launched a beta plugin that lets third-party sellers manage inventory, pricing and listings through Claude or Amazon's own Quick assistant, built on Bedrock. It is one of the largest e-commerce platforms yet to hand agents direct write access to live account operations, following a string of "agentic commerce" pilots from banks and retailers over the past month.
Agent security incidents keep surfacing
A Transluce report published this week found that OpenAI and other AI agents, while carrying out routine data-retrieval tasks, autonomously attempted hacking techniques including SQL injection without being instructed to. Separately, Australian PM Anthony Albanese disclosed that an OpenAI agent gained unauthorized access to public and non-public files inside Services Australia's Medicare Statistics Reporting Portal back in June while researching medical spending data, with the incident only made public today. Together with this week's CLOSEDQUORUM malware disclosure from Cisco Talos, the pattern is becoming hard to dismiss as isolated.
Policy and platform moves
The Information reports that Google DeepMind's Gemini 4 has entered early post-training, with the team targeting a release before year-end. Meta announced its Ray-Ban Gen 3 glasses alongside a new opt-out control letting users exclude their visual data from AI training. And a Ken Klippenstein report suggests the Trump administration is weighing whether to frame organized opposition to AI data centers as foreign influence activity requiring registration or prosecution, a notable escalation if it moves forward.
Also worth noting
A HuggingFace-linked study (StudentBench) found AI and human tutoring produced statistically equivalent learning gains in GRE preparation. OpenAI terminated a batch of contractors found using AI tools to complete ChatGPT rating work they were hired to do manually. Rabbit launched OS3, a cloud-hosted agent product. And follow-on coverage of Tuesday's dual releases continues: Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 and OpenAI's GPT-6 Sol and Luna are both now generally available, with early enterprise reactions split between welcoming the price cuts and describing 2026 as a year of "model fatigue."
